Eve Debuts A New Smart Plug And Extends Thread Support To More Devices

Eye Systems has announced some new smart home products, including a weather station that support the Thread protocol. It also announced a software upgrade that will bring Thread support to its smart water sprinkler.

The new products include an updated version of the Eve Energy smart plug and an outdoor weather station called Eve Weather. Additionally, Eve announced a firmware update for the 2nd generation Eve Aqua which will add Thread support in early April.

Apart from Thread support, the products are also HomeKit-compatible. In fact, all the smart home products launched by Eve so far are only compatible with Apple’s HomeKit, but lack Alexa and Google Assistant integration.

Eve’s EU-compatible Eve Energy smart plugs also had Thread support. It is now bringing the same connector to the United States and the United Kingdom, but with compatible control connectors. Eve Energy 2nd Generation will be available for $39.95 on April 6, 2021. Eve’s website has it for sale.

Since the Eve Energy smart plug has constant power access, it can act as a Thread border router allowing other Thread accessories to connect to the internet.

Note: If you can’t wait any longer but want similar plug that can compatible not only Homekit but Alexa and Google Assistant then you can opt for Wemo Smart Plug- At A Price of Just $19.99.

“A Thread-enabled Eve Energy is the definitive accessory for the HomePod mini because it’s smart, streamlined, and of established quality,” says Eve Systems CEO Jerome Gackel. “A handful of Eve Energy, connected to your Home in seconds, will create an ultra-reliable, ultra-responsive, and ultra-efficient mesh network that spans your entire house – without the need for a bridge.”

The Eve Weather is an IPX3 certified weather station. You can use it to track your local outdoor temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure. This data can be viewed directly on the Eve Weather’s monochrome display or by using the Eve app for iOS.

The weather station is operated by a coin cell battery that, according to Eve, will last anywhere from six to a year. The weather station will be eligible in the United States and Canada on March 26, 2021, for $69.95.

What is Thread Protocol Means?

Thread technology is specifically developed for smart home applications to improve connectivity between accessories. Now, HomeKit products can communicate not only using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, but also using HomeKit over Thread.

The big difference with this technology is that Thread creates a mesh network. Within this, lights, thermostats, outlets, sensors, and more, can also talk to each other free of the constraint of having to go through a central hub, such as a bridge. That’s because a Thread network doesn’t need one. If a single accessory fails, the data packets are simply relayed to the next device in the mesh. In short: A network that is enabled by a HomePod mini to speak HomeKit over Thread, becomes more robust with every additional accessory.
